How Much Does It Cost for an Inmate to Use Corrlinks

CorrLinks is known as the official email system that is used by the Bureau of Prisons to allow the federal inmates to connect with their family members and friends from the outside world. Unlike the other service providers where the family members or friends are the ones who usually pay, to be able to use CorrLinks, inmates are the ones who have to pay. For those who are new to this, you must be wondering how much they have to pay for it.

So, how much does it cost for an inmate to use CorrLinks? Before anything, you should know that there is a system used by CorrLinks. The name of the system is Trust Fund Limited Inmate Computer System, which is more popular as TRULINCS in short. This system is described as the system that is based on a fee that has to be paid by the inmates so that they can send or receive email. As mentioned before, the cost of using this system is the responsibility of the inmate. For those who are wondering how much the inmate has to pay, it is 5 cents per minute for using any aspect of the TRULINCS electronic messaging service. It is worth noting that it is not limited to composing the message. If they want to read or browse messages, they should also pay the same amount. The good news is that they will not be charged for the time their contacts spend on the system.

If the inmates want to pay the inmate email fee, they will have to purchase the thing known as TRU-Units. This one costs $0.05 each. The minimum purchase is 40 units while the maximum is 600 units. There are several group units, such as 40, 100, 200, 300, or 600 units. The inmates can choose how many units they want to purchase on the welcome screen of the TRULINCS system. As for the cost, it is deducted from their commissary or trust fund balance. If they want to print out the copies of the emails, they will have to pay more. A page of them costs 15 cents or 3 TRU-Units.

Due to the fact that the inmates are the ones that are responsible for the cost of using the TRULINCS system, the family members or friends of the inmates are suggested to send them between $15 to $30 each month so that they will have enough money to use the TRULINCS Public Messaging service at their convenience.

While the inmates have to pay to use the TRULINCS system, including composing, reading, browsing, and printing the messages, their family members or friends from the outside world can do all the things for free or without having to spend any. However, they can update to a premium account for a small fee, even though it is not that important.

If they want to update to a premium account, there are two options to choose from: Premium Account and an inmate text messaging service. The Premium Account is good at improving connectivity. This one costs $6 per year. By purchasing this option, they can get real time notifications of inmate email messages, can send and get emails in app without having to log in to CorrLinks.com, and the messages are retained for 60 days instead of 30 days. As for the latter option, it costs $6 per month or $36 per year.
