In Craighead County Sheriff’s Office, there are 38 sworn deputies including five bailiffs, three school resource officers, two transport officers, one full-time DARE officer, and the Criminal Investigation Division. Six administrative assistants and a total of 76 Detention Center staff may also be employed.

Craighead County Detention Center

The Craighead County Detention Center started housing inmates in 1989 and they try to create an environment which is safe, secure, and humane for inmates and staff members. The maximum capacity of the detention center is 346 inmates. There is a separation of felon status male, misdemeanor status male, and special needs male inmates. Besides, there is also a separate wing for female inmates: female felony, and misdemeanor status inmates, with a separate juvenile facility.

According to its official website, there are supervising pods for every group of inmates: Felony, Misdemeanor, Special Needs Housing, and Juvenile. There are 73 officers who supervise 4 shifts and they are assigned at 12 hours per shift.

In the Craighead County Detention Center, medical staff is also available. The staff is under the direction of a supervising Medical Director to control the emergency medical needs of inmates.

Craighead County also has a Juvenile Detention Center that provides juvenile detention services to all surrounding counties for juveniles between 10 to 17 years old. There are 62 beds, 32 males, 28 females and 2 isolation cells in the detention center.

The Rules of Visiting Inmates in Jail of Craighead County Detention Center

If you want to visit an inmate, you have to remember the rules.

  • You can do a visitation once a week
  • You will be asked the first and last names of the inmate.
  • When you visit an inmate, make sure that you wear appropriate clothes because if not, you will not be allowed to visit inmates.
  • If the visitors are 12 years old or younger, they need to be accompanied by an adult.
