Columbus Transitional Center has a mission to protect society by providing community residential services to residents prior to their discharge from incarceration. The main purposes are to develop self-discipline and promote skills needed for positive re-entry into the community. The host facility is Rutledge State Prison.

There are two units that consist of open bays for new arrivals and two and four man rooms for work release residents. All offenders here are required to work details after an orientation phase.
