The only thing that they can do is make outbound calls during approved hours. If they want to do it, they will have to pay with their money on their personal account or call collect

A thing called TRULINCS will be used to call to both landline and cell phones. It is the same if they want to send and receive emails. For the family members, friends, or anyone from outside to be able to contact the inmates, they will have to be included in the contact list of the inmates. Talking about phone calls, they are limited to only 15 minutes. During the calls, everything will be monitored and recorded.

Visiting an Inmate

There are a few steps to follow to visit your loved one at FCI Tallahassee Prison, as follows:

Step 1: Find the inmate

The first step to visit an inmate who is incarcerated at FCI Tallahassee Prison is to locate the inmate because they may no longer be in the facility or they may be moved to receive medical treatment or for security concerns.

Step 2: Be approved

Aside from making sure that an inmate that you want to visit is still at FCI Tallahassee Prison, you should also be pre-approved. There is no way for you to visit an inmate if you have not been placed on their visiting list and you have not been cleared by the BOP.

Talking about the ones that can be included in the visiting list of an inmate, the list may include:

  • Immediate family (mother, father, step-parents, foster parents, brothers, sisters, spouse, children)
  • Relatives (grandparents, uncles, aunts, in-laws, cousins)
  • Other kinds of approved visitors (friends or associates of no more than 10, foreign officials, members of religious groups, members of civic groups, employers, sponsors, parole advisors, attorneys)

Step 3: Get ready

After making sure about these two, now it is time for you to be prepared. One of the most important things that you have to pay attention to is the clothing. It is a must for you to wear appropriate clothing. Do not wear inappropriate clothing, such as halter tops, revealing shorts, bathing suits, crop tops, see-through garments, low-cut blouses or dresses, leotards, spandex, miniskirts, backless tops, hats or caps, sleeveless garments, skirts two inches or more above the knee, dresses or skirts that have a high-cut split in any part, and clothing that is similar to the one worn by inmates.

The second thing that you have to know is visiting duration. According to the official website of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, an inmate can be visited at least four hours a month. However, it is also possible for them to get more hours. To avoid overcrowding, the length of visits or the number of people who can visit at once may be restricted by the Warden.

When making a visit, please behave well. If either you as a visitor or an inmate act inappropriately, do not get surprised if the visiting room officer comes and kicks you out of the room.

Another thing that you should also take note of is physical contact. Usually, handshakes, hugs, and kisses (in good taste) are allowed at the start and end of the meeting. Apart from these things, everything may be limited for security purposes. In case you are wondering about conjugal visits, unfortunately, they are not allowed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Step 4: Plan your visit

The visiting hours at FCI Tallahassee Prison are from Friday through Sunday starting from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. unit assignments at the FDC will determine the visiting schedule. Every week, the schedule will be rotated and shared on the housing unit bulletin board in the A&O handbook.  At one time, an inmate can only be visited by a maximum of four adults and eight children.
