Drug testing is done in a laboratory and one of the biggest clinical laboratories in the United States is Labcorp.  This laboratory offers the services of drug testing for individuals and employers.

One of the methods for drug testing is using urine. And the question that people may have about this is how long the process is until we can get the results.

How long does it take to get the result of a urine drug test by LabCorp? It can vary because there are several factors. As explained on the Labcorp site, usually it takes for 24 to 72 hours and for THC metabolite, it can take around 24 hours to 2 weeks. Specifically, it is explained that the average result turnaround time from receipt in the testing lab is as shown below.

For negative screening, it can take less than 24 hours and for non-negative screening, it can take 24 hours to 72 hours.

  • Rapid Test

For negative screening, it can take less than 2 hours and for non-negative screening, it can take 24 hours to 72 hours.

Among urine drug testing, hair drug testing, and oral fluid drug testing, which drug detection is faster? The fastest one is through oral fluid because it can take from 5 to 48 hours. Through urine, it can take less than 24 hours to 72 hours as explained earlier or 7 days or even longer if the users are chronic. And the longest is through hair because it can take around 90 days.

The drug detection times can vary because of some reasons, as explained on the LabCorp site, such as sensitivity of the testing method that is used, the dose, the preparation and route of administration, duration of using drugs (whether the users are chronic or acute), the matrix which is analyzed, the pH and concentration of the matrix, the molecule or metabolite that is looked for, and variations in metabolic and renal clearance.

Basically, you will get the results on your Labcorp Patient account and at the same time the results are also reported to your healthcare provider. However, it can be different because of state or federal laws that restrict timing of delivery. However, for some results, such as employee drug screening, they cannot be gotten in Labcorp Patient.

On the Labcorp site, it is explained that for most routine tests, the results are available within 2 weeks, but if you do not get your results more than 2 weeks, you have to check several things such as whether you include correct personal profile information on your Labcorp Patient account and whether your personal information recorded with your healthcare providers suits with the information that you include in your Labcorp Patient account. If you have checked them and it shows that the information in your account is right, but you do not get the results yet, you are able to contact Labcorp.

If you are a new user, at first, the result can take up to 3 hours to appear after you have created your account and authentication has been done to your identity. It happens because the system looks for historical lab results. If the result does not appear after 3 hours, you can contact Labcorp.

Accessing The Lab Test Results of Other People in Your Labcorp Patient Portal Account

You are allowed to access the lab test results of other people in your Labcorp Patient portal account as long as you have been authorized to view their lab test results in your account. And then, you have to choose Dependents from the left menu and choose the person whose lab test results you want to check.

If you cannot check the lab test results for that person, you have to make sure that you have access rights to the laboratory information of that person.
